Tots@Franche Primary School

Tots@Franche provides quality childcare for our youngest children, from three months to three years.

We open weekdays for 50 weeks a year, from 7am to 6pm (excluding Bank Holidays).

For all inquiries, please contact the school office and speak to Tots@Franche administrator Sam or Tots manager Donna.

Tots was established in 2003 under the management of a charitable trust; it became part of the primary school in September 2015. The setting offers first class childcare for children from three months old.

Our main aims are to:

  • Adopt a child centered approach to ensure the needs of child and family are met.
  • Provide a happy, caring and welcoming atmosphere, in which the best quality care is provided for each child to reach their potential.
  • Provide care within a safe and secure environment that is well organised, lively and interesting, where each child is valued as an individual.
  • Work together with parents & carers to ensure the best care is provided for their child.
  • Meet the care and education standards of the Early Years Foundation Stage.

Tots @ Franche is the school’s provision for 3 months to 2 year olds, open 7am until 6pm 50 weeks of the year.

In our baby room we care for babies from 3 months onwards in our homely and friendly rooms where they can learn to explore their environment in the secure knowledge that the staff will support their learning whilst providing comfort, cuddles and reassurance. Babies are encouraged to explore their environment through a wide variety of activities including treasure baskets, sensory toys and tactile equipment.

We believe in ensuring that the transition from home to nursery is smooth for parents and children. The babies’ needs are met throughout the day by all staff communicating closely with their parents and carers and ensuring that the babies’ home routine for sleep time and feeds are organised around the child’s needs and preferences. We are flexible and like to make their day as settled as it would be at home. Communication is key; and as such you will receive from your babies’ key carer a daily diary recording your child’s activities.

Transition to 2’s room

The activities for this age group are similarly flexible, giving the babies space and time to explore. We have an indoor climbing frame and an outside play area to enable the babies to develop their physical skills. All the resources are at baby height so they have access to all equipment. There is plenty of sensory play on offer, such as corn flour play, pasta play, sand, water, jelly play and much more! Every day the children go outside to explore our garden area and surrounding school grounds including a secure forested area..

The two-to-three year olds enjoy playing together, using a range of activities and resources. We have a messy area, book corner, home corner, construction and small world area. Throughout the day there is a mixture of activities on offer from adult-led to child-led, with staff on hand to guide and help the children develop social skills and turn taking. They also strive to develop the children’s growing independence.

The children can be in nappies, potty training or fully trained in this room and if a sleep is required this does not have to be at a set time.

We believe in the children having frequent access to the outside so operate a free flow system, closely monitored by staff.

In both rooms, all children have daily diaries which are used as a two way communication tool with the staff and parents.

All children have access to indoor and outdoor learning facilities. Activities are adapted to suit individual’s needs and stages of development.

On a daily basis children benefit from child initiated and adult focused activities which include:

  • Sensory Play
  • Forest exploration
  • Music and movement
  • Early maths and literacy skills
  • Outdoor fun

We have highly qualified staff and excellent links with parents/carers, with a home/nursery diary for each child.

All children are offered a breakfast, afternoon snack and a two-course hot meal every day which is prepared on site from a fresh local ingredients in our onsite award winning kitchen.
